Every year thousands of pets end up in the emergency room due to food and plant toxicity. Which is why this is the purrfect time to get acquainted with what herbs, plants and flowers are toxic to your pets. Cats are natural plant nibblers and the last thing any pet parent would want is to have their pet land up in the emergency room or worse. Most people know that Onions and garlic are poisonous to animals. However, did you know that Oregano and Spinach are also toxic and not good for your pets, especially cats? Oregano is high in both phenols and terpenoids, which cats can not properly digest due to a lack of glucuronyl transferase digestive enzymes in the liver. This can result in a toxic reaction and permanent liver damage to the cat. Spinach contains calcium oxalates which can contribute to the formation of crystals in the urinary tract which is why we never feed our cats any cat can/wet food that has Spinach in it. Don't let your pet be one of the ones that ends up in the emergency room. Familiarize yourself with the list and never share your food with your pet or have any of these foods/plants/herbs in reach of your pets.
