Sometimes, cats come into our rescue and we don’t know they’ll face lifelong health challenges, becoming part of our family for years. Meet Persi. He was from a litter of three bottle babies we pulled from CACC (Chicago Animal Care and Control) back in early 2019, and since the day he came to us, Persi has struggled with daily diarrhea and severe intestinal issues.
Despite endless testing and treatments, Persi was diagnosed with Tri-Trich (when he was little), and unfortunately, the only medicine to treat it, has a 60% efficient rate, and didn’t work for him. His condition worsened into severe IBD (Inflammatory Bowel Disease), leaving him in constant pain. Persi's inflamed intestines made it difficult for him to eat, and he continued to lose weight—his life became a cycle of pain and discomfort.
But we made a commitment to Persi, just as we do for all our rescues. After years of trial and error, we’re finally seeing a glimmer of hope. Thanks to a new treatment plan with long-term steroids, pro and priobiotics, pain medications, and appetite stimulants, Persi is eating again. For the first time, he’s finishing full meals and putting on weight, and most importantly, he’s not in constant pain anymore.
His care is incredibly costly. Just his most recent bloodwork came to $750, and that’s not including his ongoing treatments. He is also on a strict special diet of Venison only. Despite the costs, we’re fully committed to helping him get healthy.
We still have a long road ahead, but Persi is a fighter, and we believe he deserves a chance at a pain-free, happy life. We need your help to make that happen. Please consider donating to help cover his vet bills and give this sweet boy the care he needs to thrive. Persi is worth it, and we know you’ll think so too.
